CADB Post: Embossing

Hi there, and thanks for stopping by. It's time again for another post for me at the Card A Day Blog. This week's theme is embossing, and here is the card I made following that theme.

I was making a tag album, and I was using Tim Holtz Distress Ink, various stamps from my collection, and embossing powder to make all my tags, and I thought, this would be great for a card, and since this week's theme was embossing, I decided I would use the same supplies for my card, that I used for my tag album.

To make my card, I started off with a 5.50" x 4.25" white card base. I then cut a piece of white card stock, cut to 5.25" x 4", and with the Tim Holtz Distress Ink pad, Festive Berries, I decided to stamp the words Happy Birthday on the bottom of the card stock piece, since I needed a birthday card to send to someone. With the same stamp pad, I stamped the bird images on the upper part of the the white card stock piece, sprinkled them with clear embossing powder, then heat set the images. Then using a makeup sponge, I inked over the images. To finish off my card, I added a piece of red checkered ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon, across the top piece just above the sentiment.

Card A Day Blog: Christmas gift cards

Wow, it's hard to believe it's that time again. It's only the beginning of November, and they are already playing Christmas music at the mall...lol! I guess that's one way of getting ready for some Christmas creating, and here is another, my latest entry for the Card A Day Blog. This week's theme is , Christmas gift cards.

Here is the outside of my card,

To make my card, I started off with a 5.5" x 4.25" white card base, then added a piece of patterned paper cut to 5.25" x 4" to the front of the card. I then cut out and embossed a mat frame with my Cuttlebug, and the largest die from the Spellbinders Nestabilities set, Floral Ovals, using red card stock. I wanted to add a little something to the edges, so instead of inking the edges, I decided to try embossing the edges with some red Zing glitter embossing powder, to add some shine to the edges. To do this, I pressed the edges of my die cut piece onto my Versamark pad, then sprinkled it with the glitter embossing powder, then heat set it. I then adhered that piece to the top of my patterned paper.

For the trees, I chose two of the tree stamps from the Just Rite Clear stamp set, O Christmas Tree, I stamped two of one stamp, and one of the other with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and colored them with Copic Markers. For the gold trim on the trees, I used some of the border stickers from the Dazzles set, Gold Butterfly Dazzles. For the star on the middle tree, I embossed one of the stars from that same stamp set, added a dot of silver Viva Decor glitter liner to the middle of it, and glued it to the top of the tree. 

I placed the two trees that are the same, one on each side of my mat, then added the middle tree just a little lower than the outer trees, and adhered it with dimensional tape to raise it up a bit more than the other trees.

Now, for the inside of my card. I don't know where I got this idea from, but I know I saw it on another blog, that I lost track of when I wanted to make another card a while back that I wanted to add a gift card to, and I wanted to use the technique, so I had to go off what I could remember. So this is my version of it. I cut out two pieces of white copy paper, 5.5" x 5.25", and using my Scor Buddy,  I placed my paper with the 5.5" length going across, and scored one end at 1.5". I did this with both pieces of paper. I added adhesive to the sides of one of the 1.5" scored sections, and matched it up with the other piece, and stuck them together, leaving the inside open, so a gift card can be slipped inside. I then attached the two attached pieces to the inside of the card so that the gift card flap is on the fold. I then stamped my greeting on the bottom side of the inside of the card.

Card A Day Blog: Thanksgiving

It's time again for me to make another post on the Card A Day Blog, and this week's theme is, Thanksgiving.  So I pulled out my Thanksgiving and autumn stamps, and found one I thought would be fitting. The particular image I chose is from a stamp set I just recently purchased on a shopping trip, it's from the Inkadinkado set, Autumn Foliage. I chose my favorite stamp out of this set, the pumpkin on a vine, which is the main reasons I purchased the set.

To start with, I cut and folded a 5.5" x 4.25" card base. I then cut out a piece of acorn and leaves patterned paper from the DCWV Paper stack, Amber Autumn, cut to 5.25" x 4", then I matted it with a piece of dark brown cardstock, cut to just slightly larger than the patterned paper, and adhered that to the card base.

Next, I stamped my image from the autumn stamp set on white cardstock  using a versamark clear embossing pad, sprinkled some gold embossing powder on it, then after pouring off the excess powder, I heat set it with my heat gun. I then cut around the image, leaving a bit of white edge around it. I placed the embossed image on a mat that I made with the second to the last die from the Spellbinders Romantic Rectangles die set, that had the edges inked with the Tim Holtz Aged Mahogany Distress Ink. I also inked my embossed image with the same ink. I then attached the matt and image in the middle of the card.

I don't have a stamp that says Happy Thanksgiving, so I typed the words out on my computer with a brown font color on white cardstock, cut around it, inked it with the same Tim Holz ink, and adhered it to the top left side of the mat.

As in a lot of my creations, I wanted to finish off my card by adding a little bling, so I took out my box of Viva Decor, and with the gold glitter liner, I put a dot on each corner of the sentiment  and a dot in the middle of each of the blooms on the image.

Mojo Monday Entry #261

Hello everyone! I have been busy making cards for Operation Write Home, and one of the places I like to go to for some great inspiration is Mojo Monday. Here is the sketch for this week.

For my card I used the next to the largest die from the Spellbinders Die set, Lacy Circles, the lace is from Really Reasonable Ribbon, and the pennant is from the Spellbinders Nested Lacey Pennants set. My image is the Reindeer Cameo stamp set from Inkadinkado. I stamped the image on a piece of red cardstock using a clear embossing ink pad, and then added black embossing powder, then I heat set it with my heat gun. I cut around the edges of the image, and placed it on top of the die cut circle.

Card A Day Blog Post: Halloween

Hi everyone, hope you all have a wonderful weekend. It's hard to believe that the holidays are soon approaching, and it's time to start thinking about holiday cards. The theme for this week at The Card A Day Blog is Halloween, and here is what I created for my turn this week.

To make my card, I first started off with a 5.5" x 4.25" white card base. For my background paper, I cut a piece of black card stock at 5.25" x 4", and using the star and swirls stamp from the Bat N Moon Mini stamp set from, Inkadinkado,  I randomly stamped around the paper with Versa Mark clear embossing ink, added gold embossing powder, then heated it up with my heat gun. I adhered that piece to the top of my card base.

For my moon image, I used the moon and bats stamp from that same set, following the same procedure as the background, then punched it out with a 2" circle punch. I then cut out a piece using purple card stock, and the next to the last die in the Spellbinders Nestabilities set Star Circles, and adhered my embossed image to the middle, then with dimensional tape, I attached that piece to the left hand side of my card front. For my sentiment, I heat embossed with the same gold embossing powder, the words, Happy Halloween, cut the paper to size, then inked the edges with black ink, then adhered it to the bottom right side of my card front.

Card A Day Blog: Embossing

Hi everyone, here is my entry for this weeks theme, embossing, at the  Card A Day Blog. I had to make a card for a swap I'm in, and the theme was Christmas, so, I decided I would make a card for my post, and use the theme of Christmas so I can send it to my swap partner.

For my card, I used one of the sketches from the Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge, posted on 7/16/12.

      

To make my card, I started off with a 5.5" x 4.25" white card base. I added a piece of designer paper with a holly print on it. I don't know who the manufacturer is, because it was a piece I found in my stash. I then cut pennants out of red card stock, using the smallest pennant die from the Spellbinders die set, Nested Lacey Pennants. I then embossed a piece of 4.24" x 3" green  card stock using the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder, and my Cuttlebug, and adhered the pennants to the back of the bottom of that piece, so that they hang down across the edge.

I cut another piece of lighter green card stock at 5.5" x 1.5", cut it into a pendant, and embossed it with the Swirl Cuttlebug folder, and added a piece of 1.75" x 4" burgundy card stock behind it, then adhered that piece to the left of my card. 

For my embellishment, I cut and embossed my poinsettia using the top 3 pedal dies form the Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia dies using red for the largest and smallest pedals, and burgundy for the middle pedals. I dabbed each piece onto a clear Versa Mark pad, sprinkled clear embossing powder on it, then heated it, which gave it some shine. Then I layered each piece according to size, adhering them together with glue. For the middle of my poinsettia I used three flat back pearls. I then attached my finished poinsettia to the middle of my green pennant.

I finished my card off by stamping the words "Merry Christmas" on a piece of white card stock, with red ink, cut it to size, then inked the edges with green ink, then attached it to my card using dimensional tape. To add a little bling, I attached little clear rhinestones to my small red pennants.
